Blake Morgan is delighted to be working with Cardiff and the City Region for MIPIM 2020. Our real estate and construction team have enjoyed a successful year supporting a number of Welsh clients on their property and infrastructure projects and look forward to seeking out new investment for the new decade.
One of the key projects which will support the city’s ambition to remain competitive and attract investment is Cardiff Parkway. We advised Cardiff Parkway, who are backed by Investec and Welsh Government, on the development of a new train station on the outskirts of Cardiff with an associated business park which could potentially employ 5,000 people. The train station would be located on the existing South Wales to London Great Western Mainline that runs through the 160-acre site. More developments in transport through our work this year for Transport for Wales advising on procurement and the construction contracts for the IDPs for the Wales and Borders Rail Service and the South East Wales Metro.
In North Wales we supported Welsh Government in relation to the construction and leasing of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (“AMRC”) Cymru. AMRC Cymru is a purpose built research facility operated by the University of Sheffield, next to the Airbus wing-manufacturing plant in Broughton, described as “a real game-changer for the economy of North Wales”. Construction of AMRC Cymru is now complete and the facility was officially opened on 28 November 2019 by the First Minister.
We are delighted to be hosting MIPIM Christmas drinks for MIPIM partners at our One Central Square offices on Monday 16 December and look forward to seeing you all in Cannes in March to show the opportunities that investment in the City Region can offer.
